SWEPT offers several programs which help participants gain the skills and opportunities to succeed. The pathway you choose will take you through a career path leading to gainful employment.
Each semester SWEPT offers GED courses that prepare students to take the High School Equivalency exam. In addition, SWEPT provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, in which certified ESL teachers provide instruction in all subject areas—including language arts, science, history, writing, and math—in both Spanish and English. SWEPT also offers a Workforce Ready soft skills course, which covers stress and time management skills, resume and cover letter writing workshops, and computer skills. Finally, SWEPT offers an Entrepreneurial Track that serves individuals interested in starting their own business. This course covers (but is not limited to) business structures, what is needed to start a business, financial literacy and accounting, product development, marketing, planning, and customer service.

Class Description: SWEPT offers GED courses that prepare students to take the GED exam. Our certified teachers teach all subject areas, including language arts, science, history, writing, and math, in both Spanish and English.
SWEPT has partnered with Amigos y Amigas, a nonprofit South Broadway community-based organization. They provide GED classes on-site at Amigos y Amigas.

Class Description: English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are designed to teach a variety of language skills to non-native English speakers. This course cover subjects such as English grammar, pronunciation, spelling & vocabulary.
SWEPT is partnering with Southwest Creations Collaborative (SCC), a nonprofit dedicated to providing dignified, living-wage employment to women from low-income communities by offering English as a Second Language (ESL) courses to their clients working towards US Citizenship.

Class Description: Citizenship classes are designed to prepare students for the US citizenship or naturalization exam and interview. Instruction is provided in the areas of government, current events, test-taking strategies, and appropriate English skills.

SWEPT worked with New Mexicans Prevention for Gun Violence and RFK Charter School students to take surrendered guns and turn them into art. We then designed a mural and presented a photo of it to the governor.
Guns to Garden Program Participants:
Supplies: Provided by Swept: Knives Towels, pots and pans, aprons food for recipe test, chef hats chef coats.
Class Description: Prep, prepare and present various types of meals. Students must demonstrate the basics of safety and sanitation, it helps to identify and control, Biological, Chemical and Physical hazards to prior to testing for their ServSafe Food Handlers and Food Managers Certifications.

No experience in auto body is necessary for this live and hands-on class, but even the more experienced student will strengthen their existing skills with this class.
Auto body is a highly sought-after skill for many auto enthusiasts around the world. It’s uses can be used for many things including automobiles, boats, RV’s, small planes, motorcycles, vintage pieces and more.
General Course Objectives: This course will enable students to develop entry-level skills as auto body repair and refinish technicians. Students will develop a basic understanding of automobile construction (unibody- over-frame, space frame) and will learn basic repair techniques. Students will learn to identify and use power and hand tools necessary to perform basic repairs. Students will receive up to 106 hours of classroom instruction through a combination of in-class instruction and hands-on shop. Students will receive certificate of completion in Auto Collision Repair.
Class Size: Maximum 12 persons; Minimum 3 persons. The limited class size offers plenty of individualized instruction and attention. Students may be high school 9-12 graders and or members of the community, ages 14 years and older. Instruction will be interviewing all interested students prior to being accepted into program. All students are required to wear work clothes and covered shoes.

Cultivate and maintain designated agricultural locations using traditional farming methods native to New Mexico. Processing organically grown produce in preparation to place in SWEPT community support agriculture (CSA) offering community members a share of the harvest, while mentoring students in traditional farming practices. Soil amending to insure nutrient-filled plants. Crop rotation so the soil is not stripped of nutrients, and the plants solar and water needs are maintained. Organic pesticide control, using soap and manual removal, and in extreme cases, neme oil. SWEPT students will be educated in traditional water practices using the landscape and the acequia, as well as modern irrigation mechanics. Agroscience will be taught throughout to ensure the students have a sound knowledge about plant care, growth and health.
The goal of this program is to not only cultivate the health of the land but also ensure the students have the opportunity to heal and grow themselves. This includes nutrition and bodily health, as well as a space for youth to explore new ideas and expand their social knowledge with a focus on restorative practices.
